Do you provide a cake knife?
Over the years, this has found its way onto my list of frequently asked questions and up until now the answer has been no.
Usually I direct my couples to their venue who will often provide a knife to do the official cutting of the cake.
Occasionally I arrive to a venue and find that the couple themselves have sourced their own cake knife and servers like these:
I’ve now decided to add a personalised cake knife and server set to my wedding cake service, not only helping to enhance the cutting of the cake, but to provide couples with a personalised memento and special keepsake of their day.
I got together with my good friend Amie from Laurel House Designs and we started the research to find the perfect cake knife and server set. I say ‘we’, it was mostly Amie on the research train and me on the other end of many messages commenting and giving my input.
I was initially keen to find a gold set to fit with my own branding, but my initial delight at finding what I thought were the perfect pieces, actually turned out to be a dead loss when they arrived marked and damaged. The slice even snapped in half when Amie gently rinsed it after trialling some engraving. Not good.
Between us, we had some non-negotiables on our checklist while sourcing the perfect set. It needed to be luxurious and well made. It had to not only look great, but feel wonderful too. A permanent method of personalisation was key to this item being both luxurious and a lasting keepsake, meaning that engraving was the only option we wanted to consider. So we went back to the drawing board and continued our search.
And then we struck gold, or actually we struck superb quality 18-10 stainless steel.
We are both so happy with these beautiful pieces. They have a contemporary yet classic style so they won’t date and will work well in traditional and modern homes.
The hammered finish on the handles speaks to me and my passion for texture and ooo they are a lovely weight!
