3 Creative Friends, 3 Weddings, 3 Wedding Cakes - Sophie

Updated: Sep 14, 2023

In 2019, I made three completely different wedding cakes for three close friends; Emma, Sophie and Laura. The ladies kindly agreed to write a little guest blog each and I've already shared Laura's a few months ago. Now it's the turn of Sophie.

"2020 will mark ten years since we all met at Norwich University of the Arts on the BA Textile Design course, a fun filled three years followed and friends for life were found! Since then we have shared life’s ups and downs, and soon enough found we were all engaged and had weddings to plan!

We enjoyed a beautiful spring of hen party celebrations and then our special days arrived! Our weddings were spaced roughly six weeks apart, so our summer really was packed with lovely gatherings and occasions to share. Truly a year we will never forget!

Our days were all so unique to each of us and I feel that we all really embraced what we loved and poured that into the design and atmosphere of our special days. We shared aspects of our planning with each other but kept lots of details to ourselves, like the styles of our dresses, flowers and cakes which made it extra special on the day to see everything come together. A wedding is always a lovely occasion to attend, but having shared the whole experience together from engagement to honeymoon, it truly was such a special time!

Carl and I met at Glastonbury festival, and were married ten years to the day since our first date. We wanted a relaxed day that reflected this, a celebration of those ten years, filled with everyone and everything that we love, and after much deliberation on different ideas for venues and locations we decided on a village church ceremony followed by a DIY countryside reception at the local cricket pavilion just a short stroll across the road. The space allowed us to decorate a blank canvas ourselves, a tipi on the green outside created our dance floor and we danced the night away to our brilliant live band, under the fairy lit, night sky, just as we had when we met all those years ago!

My love of florals was so important on our wedding day, and my beautiful bouquet a real highlight of the day for me. I wanted a cake equally bursting with colour and floral goodness, and that is certainly what I got! Imogen used local ‘Nurtured in Norfolk’ petals to adorn the outside of my vegan buttercream three-tiered cake, a perfect match to my bouquet and table flowers. She captured my vision perfectly and definitely brought a ray of sunshine on our rainy summer’s day!

I knew of Imogen’s work back from our university days, her equally talented husband, Neil helped us tirelessly through many print room panics and last minute deadline submissions! So it was lovely to choose someone that came so well recommended to play an important part in our day.

I went with my heart for all of my suppliers, and am so glad that I did, the enthusiasm and work that Imogen puts into her creations is so special and every cake unique. She perfectly captured my vision and I love that the service was so personal and bespoke to us.

"Our beautiful cake, for our beautiful day that we shall never forget!"

Thank you Sophie! A belated happy first anniversary and also excitingly, congratulations on the birth of your first baby!
