Discover statement styling ideas, from vintage silverware dessert tables to luxe installations, and the perfect personalised accessory for your modern silver wedding cake.
Silver has officially taken over from gold as this year’s must-have metal for wedding styling. I've always loved the warmth of gold, and my past associations with silver at weddings were often those massive, ornate cake stands that made me shudder*. I'm over that now - when used in the right setting and with the perfect styling, a silver wedding theme looks absolutely superb. This trend offers a sleek, modern, and incredibly versatile aesthetic for any couple planning their day.
*Stands like these have their place but it's important to understand that a stand should enhance the cake's size and style. A small, rustic semi-naked cake looks mismatched on an ornate, antique stand that's too grand for its simplicity. Equally an elegant white, 6 tier, sugar flower encrusted cake does not belong on a log slice.
Innovative Silver Wedding Styling from Local Experts
I am lucky to work with some of the best local suppliers in our industry. Two shining examples of forward-thinking, design-led, and trendsetting suppliers are the wonderful stylist Penny Synched Events and the equally wonderful Danielle and Yasmine from Array. Both have used silver in their work and made it truly shine.

Chocolate Dessert Tower Creation
Another beautiful instance of vintage silverware was featured at Godwick Hall in a shoot with Synched Events, Floral Sistas, and Jessica Ren Photography.
A stunning centerpiece was created by Penny, featuring an impressive tower of decadent chocolate desserts and cocktails. Layered cocoa-brown fabrics complemented an assortment of vintage dishes, platters, and silverware. Artfully arranged gourmet brownies and truffles from B&R Dining and Alstons Confectionery were paired with fresh blackberries, dates, and shards of dark chocolate. To complete this luxurious display, espresso martinis were added as the finishing touch.

Luxe Silver Tablescapes and Florals
A bold silver scheme was showcased by a collaboration between Synched and Floral Sistas at the most recent 'A Love Thing' wedding fair at Carrow House in Norwich. They transformed a small tablescape into a statement piece using a neutral colour palette, rich texture, and luxe silver fabric folds. The florals focused on the striking tulip and cala lily, creating maximum impact with towering arrangements and cascading waterfalls of stems. Details like hand-embossed metal place names from The Little Lettering Hub and a touch of fringing added further texture and interest.
Statement Silver Installations
The talented team at Array designed, installed, and styled a stunning Christmas party at Wilderness Reserve. Since Array designs and makes much of their hire stock in-house, they literally build the scheme pieces from raw materials. Highlights included:
Disco plinths draped with liquid silver fabric and statement floral pieces that stood out like works of art.
The DJ area, a vision of silver drapes, fringing, and disco balls.
Upstairs areas featuring gunmetal tones and glossy draped tables against a deep red backdrop.
Dreaming Up Your Silver Wedding Cake
While I haven’t created a new silver wedding cake recently (the closest being Steven and Cat’s 2022 cake which featured a silver leaf moon and a silver-edged edible sugar geode topper), I do have several exciting ideas brewing. My design inspiration focuses on texture and interesting forms. I need a wonderful couple to order one, as I’ll never get around to making one just for fun!

Here’s my moodboard for a silver themed cake…just in case you know anyone who wants one!

If I find the time, I plan to sketch out some of the cakes I'd make based on this moodboard. Watch this space to see if I actually remember to do it!
